Manifesto Quick Add

Yep I missed this in the rant below... why the NFRC actually matters? Because between states and future code changes, providing a full system calc with a "certification" will become the norm. California is already on this and surely not the first. Because of the need to reduce the energy consumption, there will be more of a push on this angle and as of this writing NFRC will be the only game in town... like it or not.

Also NFRC will be adding IG Certification to their wares... yep, why trust the current system that works so well when there's money to be made!

What's crazy is there are plenty of industries that WANT NFRC- like Dynamic glazing, Window Films, Garage Doors etc... all of the consumer style products... yet they waste time on us. ((And why do consumer style products want them? Because they have a track record of protecting people who NEED protecting. They should just stick with what they are good at))

Hi Max,
i am kinda lost with the statement that NFRC will add IG to their certification package...........
What can be gained, except for giving additional choices of Labs. The present IG testing + certification is in good shape. This being said, what reason could the NFRC use to justify jumping into this field? Please don't say " because they want to."

or am I just missing something.

Thanks for the comment... it can be viewed both ways, the NFRC sees the IG cert has a part of their quality assurance side, ignoring the fact its been done for years by high quality people. I am not sure how this will progress, the easiest angle would've been to demand certification via IGMA, but I think they want to keep in house. NFRC has a meeting next week, so I assume more of this will be out then...

I don't believe it is NFRC's intent to do IG certification themselves. I think what they are considering is that when someone seeks NFRC certification for a U and SHGC label, they will require you to also have IG certification from one of the current IG certification groups. One question for which I don't have an answer - if CMA takes off, does everyone already do IG cert, or do some of the smaller manufacturers not have it?

Tom- thanks for clearing up- though I wonder about Keystone Certs leaving IGMA, what that means in this whole deal? Seemed to me that was done to dovetail with NFRC.....
Most legit suppliers do have certs... so yes a positive offshoot (oh my a positive!) is that it will make sure everyone is following the same rule when it comes to the IG quality. But in reality most people already do...
Thanks for jumping in and posting...

Loved the 2/23 rant. All true. NGA cares, but is one step ahead...why bother to fight when it does no good? Just let them sink from their own weight.
