Max, I’m a regular reader of your column in US Glass Magazine. Even though I don’t always agree with you, I find it informative and entertaining. I hope this site creates a similar stir while sharing information and creating healthy debate to help unify and strengthen all stakeholders in the glass and glazing industry- which is definitely needed!
What I don’t understand is your continual attacks against the NFRC and the people who run it.
In order to have any real impact on energy conservation in commercial fenestration, don’t you agree that a method is needed to easily calculate, and then create a rating of the combined performance of framing and glass in a commercial application, instead of only using the center of glass calc that is currently the standard?
Yes, the cost impact needs to be minimized, but the NFRC is already the standard on the residential side and the system appears to be working. Plus, it’s widely recognized by code officials.
Isn’t it also inevitable that the DOE will mandate this?
